Azolidines

2-Mercaptothiazoline, is used in the chain-lengthening of alkyl halides by trans-iodopropenylenation. 2-Mercaptothiazoline is an antithyroid agent that strongly reduces thyroid hormone levels. 2-Mercaptothiazoline is also used as an intermediate in the preparation of biologically active compounds.

Rhodanine inhibits the multiplication of echovirus 12 and the development of virus-induced morphologic changes. It has been used in tannase assay in cultures of tannin degrading fungi. It possess anticonvulsant, antibacterial, antiviral and antidiabetic activities.

1,3-Dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone is used as a high-boiling polar aprotic solvent. It is used as a substitute solvent for toxic hexamethylphosphoramide. It finds application in detergents, dyestuffs, electronic materials and in the manufacture of polymers.
