Berberine chloride

Berberine is an isoqinoline alkaloid shown to have a chemopreventive property against colon tumor formation by inhibiting the enzyme Cox-2 (cyclooxygenase-2) which is abundantly expressed in colon cancer cells. Also inhibits c-Jun (Activator Protein 1), a transcription factor that plays a critical role in inflammation and carcinogenesis. Berberine upregulates the expression of Pgp in hepatoma cells. Treatment with berberine potentially results in the reduced accumulation of chemotherapeutic drugs.

Solubility
Soluble in dimethyl sulfoxide (74 mg/ml at 25°C), ethanol (<1mg/mL at 25°C), water (<1mg/mL at 25°C), and methanol.

Store at -20°C. Incompatible with oxidizing agents. Protect from heat.
