Blocks the synthesis of dihydrofolic acid by inhibiting the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase and it inhibits folic acid synthesis in prokaryotes.

Applications
Sulfathiazole is a short-acting antimicrobial topical sulfa drug. It blocks the synthesis of dihydrofolic acid by inhibiting the enzyme dihydropteroate synthase and it Inhibits folic acid synthesis in prokaryotes. It will act against Gram positive, Gram negative and Chlamydial bacteria. It is also used as a common oral and topical antimicrobial agent.

Solubility
Slightly soluble in water, deuterated dimethyl sulfoxide and ethanol. Soluble in acetone, dilute mineral acids, potassium hydroxide solution, sodium hydroxide solution, ammonia water, dimethyl sulphoxide and methanol.

Notes
Keep container tightly sealed. Store in cool, dry conditions in well sealed containers. Incompatible with oxidizing agents.
