It is active ingredient in the Fehiling’s solution and Nylander’s test involved in the determination of reducing sugars. It is utilized to break up emulsion in organic synthesis as well as a common precipitant in protein crystallography. As a Biuret reagent, it is used to measure the protein concentration. Furthermore, it is used as laxative and is also used in food industry.
