As a reagent for ion-pair extractionsTetra-n-butylammonium hydroxide, 55% w/w aq. solution is used as a phase-transfer catalyst in organic synthesis especially for alkylation and condensation reactions. It is used as a curing accelerator for epoxy resins. It is also used in preparation of dichlorocarbene from chloroform.
