  • 2-Mercapto-1-methylimidazole, also known as methimazole, is an antithyroid medication
  • Methimazole works by inhibiting the enzyme thyroid peroxidase (TPO), which is responsible for synthesizing the thyroid hormones triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine (T4) from the precursor thyroglobulin
