General Description

3,5-Dinitrosalicylic acid also known as DNA or DNSA reacts with reducing sugars forming 3-amino-5-nitrosalicylic acid, which is an aromatic compound with maximum absorption at 540 nm allowing spectrophotometer measurement of the amount of reducing molecules

Applications

It is used in the quantification of reducing sugars by colorimetry in the blood. It is also used to analyze glycosidase (glycoside hydrolase) activity by quantitation of enzymatically released reducing sugar
3,5-Dinitrosalicylic acid can detect reducing substances in the urine
This compound is used to detect the presence of free carbonyl groups (C=O)
3,5-Dinitrosalicylic acid can be used to determine the effects of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) on membrane leakage
