In the poultry industry, it is sometimes added with feed to kill E. coli bacteria. It acts as a reducing agent for the catalytic reduction of nitrate in water.

Solubility
Miscible with water, ether, acetone, ethyl acetate, glycerol, methanol and ethanol. Partially miscible with benzene, toluene and xylene.
Notes
Hygroscopic. Store closed in a dry and well-ventilated place. Containers which are opened must be carefully resealed and kept upright to prevent leakage.
