General Description

  • Minoxidil is a piperidine that acts as a vasodilator when converted into its active metabolite, minoxidil sulphate
  • Minoxidil opens adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-sensitive potassium channels in the plasma membrane and relaxes smooth muscle in arteriole walls. Relaxation of smooth muscle within the arterioles leads to decreased resistance and lower blood pressure
