Sodium pentacyanonitrosylferrate(III) dihydrate, is used as a vasodilator drug to reduce blood pressure. It is used as an analytical reagent for the detection of methyl ketones and amines. Further, it is used as a reference compound for the calibration of Mossbauer spectrometer. It is also used for chromatographic detection of peptides containing cystine. It finds application as a color reagent in the development of thin layer chromatography in combination with acetaldehyde. It is also used in presence of buffers as reagent for ketone strips, which is utilized to test ketone in the urine of a diabetic.

This Thermo Scientific Chemicals brand product was originally part of the Alfa Aesar product portfolio. Some documentation and label information may refer to the legacy brand. The original Alfa Aesar product / item code or SKU reference has not changed as a part of the brand transition to Thermo Scientific Chemicals.
